How to book a DJ in India: a checklist
Booking a DJ for a wedding, sangeet, club night or corporate event comes down to matching the style, confirming the equipment and getting the details in writing.
1. Match the DJ to the event
A club DJ, a wedding DJ and a corporate DJ play differently. Check the genres on their profile and listen to a recent mix. Ask for sets from a similar event, not only their best-known one.
2. Check their Instagram
Recent posts show how often they play, what the crowd looks like and how they present themselves. A profile that has been quiet for months is worth a question.
3. Confirm what is included
- Sound system, mixer, lights and a backup laptop or drive, or whether the venue provides them.
- Set length, soundcheck time and setup access.
- An emcee or anchor, if you want one.
- Travel, accommodation and overtime charges.
4. Share the brief
Give a run-of-show: arrival, guest entry, key moments, do-play and do-not-play lists, and the end time. Venue noise limits and curfews should be known in advance.
5. Put it in writing
Agree the fee, advance, balance due date, cancellation terms and what happens if the DJ cannot attend. A written confirmation by message or email is better than a verbal promise.
6. Book early for peak dates
Wedding season, festivals and New Year's Eve fill up first. Ask for availability before you fix the venue date if you can.
