How to sell event tickets online in India
Selling tickets online means setting up the right passes, taking UPI and card payments, and checking people in at the door. This guide covers each step for club nights, concerts and workshops.
1. Decide your pass types
Different events need different tickets. Workshops sell seats and materials kits, with student or kids rates. Club nights sell stag and couple entries, tables and guestlists. Give each type its own inventory, and set an early-bird cut-off if you want to reward early buyers.
2. Take payments buyers already use
Indian buyers expect UPI, plus cards, netbanking and wallets. Make sure the checkout offers them and that every order shows the ticket price, fees and GST clearly, so there are no surprises at payment.
3. Understand the fees
Compare platforms on the total cost, not the headline. On 3Bit Nightlife there is no setup or monthly fee and no charge for a listing that does not sell. A 5% platform commission applies to the ticket value of each paid order, and a 2% booking fee is paid by the buyer by default; you can absorb it into your ticket price instead.
4. Check people in reliably
Each ticket carries a QR code. Staff scan it on any phone, and a duplicate scan is flagged with the time of the first entry, which settles door arguments quickly. Test check-in on weak mobile data before the event.
5. Promote with codes you can measure
Create promo codes with caps and expiry dates, give each channel its own code, and compare which one drove sales. Email past attendees when you announce your next event.
6. Reconcile after the event
You should get a settlement statement per event that shows fees, GST and commission separately, not one monthly lump sum.
