Website audit checklist: 5 checks that matter
If your website is not bringing enquiries, the cause is almost always one of five things. Work through them in order; each takes a few minutes.
1. Speed
Open your site on a mobile connection, not office wifi. If the main content takes more than a few seconds to appear, visitors leave and Google notices. Run Google PageSpeed Insights on your home page and read the "opportunities" list: oversized images and unneeded scripts are the usual causes.
2. Mobile
Most visits to local business sites come from phones. Check that text is readable without zooming, buttons are easy to tap, and the phone number is a tap-to-call link.
3. Google visibility
- Search for your business name. Do you appear first?
- Search for what you sell plus your city. Do you appear at all?
- Each page needs its own title and description that say what the page is.
- Add your site to Google Search Console and submit your sitemap.
- Claim your Google Business Profile if you serve a local area.
4. Enquiry flow
Count the taps from the home page to contacting you. A visitor should see one clear next step: call, WhatsApp, or a short form. If a form asks for ten fields, cut it to three. Test it yourself and confirm the message reaches you.
5. Trust
Show who you are: a real address or service area, a phone number, named people, genuine customer reviews and examples of your work. Make sure the site uses HTTPS and has no broken pages.
What to do with the results
Fix the enquiry flow first, because it affects every visitor you already have. Then speed and mobile, then search visibility, which compounds over months.
